Using blogs for professional purposes-

I think it would be interesting to set up a seperate weblog when I re-enter the corporate world.  I think about when I was in advertising previously and how it would of been beneficial for clients to read.  I could of focused on certain topics that people question or tips to help market your company in the best way possible.  Businesses are always looking for the biggest return on their investment and could always use a little help for free.

Reading Opinion Editorials have become a Fad.

I have to admit I never really read op-ed’s until they were introduced in class.  I knew what they were, but I wasn’t interested in hearing other people’s opinions.  The more I started to research them, I found that if it’s a topic I like, I can stand to hear someone else’s thoughts!  It’s almost a habit now to go through and read some…it also helps with keeping up with today’s news.

Teens Online

I chose to write my research paper on a topic we hear about frequently.  It reflects how the internet has changed and our teens seem to be growing up “online.”  It has its goods and bads.  However,  we seem to hear more about the negative with kids destroying themselves because they are bullied and teased online.  The question I have is: shouldn’t parent be more involved and know what their kids are getting into?

How spoiled are we?

You don’t realize how spoiled we are until something as simple as the power goes out. This morning I was sitting at home and thanks to the ice storm, everything went dark. At that point it crossed my mind, what are we going to do. I can’t check email, can’t wash or dry clothes, I can’t even finish getting ready for school. Thank goodness my palm pilot was charged so I could play games! Unfortunately there are things we need when the power goes out like heat and refrigeration, but there are ways to come up with alternatives. I then thought how selfish I was wishing I had power. What about people in less fortunate countries who don’t have homes or even water to drink.

Op-ed’s are becoming more interesting

I have enjoyed reading and writing through the digital composition compared to writing the analytical research paper.  I believe it causes more interaction between students when using blogs.  As I have found I can go onto a peer’s blog to read their thoughts and ideas and in the end, leave a comment.  When you write a research paper, not many people read it.  There isn’t much interaction about it.  The other major difference is you don’t have to stick with one topic on the blogs…you are free to write about whatever you desire!!

Who supports Barack Obama?

Why are people so supportive of Barack Obama?

Let’s look a little at his character.

1) When elected to office he was sworn in on the Qur’an- not the Holy Bible!

2) Will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance nor will show an reverence to our flag by placing his hand over his heart.

3) Affiliation with Farrakhan..need I say more?

4) Believes that we should have any law possible for gun control when it steps on the toes of the Amendment: Right to Bear Arms.

5) Wants to end the war and bring our troops home.  Has anyone thought that if we end the war, they will bring it and fight on our territory.  Now is that the smartest thing to do?

Is just concerns me that people will go out an vote for the candidate that is best represented by the media.  You need to take a good look at what someones says from all angles.

Is technology really the way of the future? Op-Ed

We hear so many times that technology is the way of the future.  Is it really? Could it only be portions of technology?  We have definitely seen specific pieces like cell phones and medical equipment make an advancement for the better….in those cases, I agree.  The aspect that I question, is the increase in the popularity and use of the Internet.  Is it more beneficial or destructive?

The Internet has taken a huge leap in the past fifteen to twenty years.  In its infant stages, it used to be a place to look for jobs or do some research on certain topics.  Now as people explore the Internet, it has turned into what some would consider destructive means for our young adults.

In more recent years we have been blessed with the creation of websites such as Facebook and MySpace.  These are sites in which society can socialize with other people.  For some teens, this is exactly what they need.  They need to make more friends and be able to have conversations with their peers.  One can easily express their feelings or find out more about people then they would tell you in person. However, on the flip side, these are also places in which someone can create their own unique identity, even if it is someone they are not.  They can be whatever age, race or personality they choose.   If they have a problem in life, they can fix it online.  Who is going to know?  Certainly not parents!  They do not seem to get that involved these days in their children’s lives….more like teen’s lives.

Teens’ might say that the Internet is another great place to escape parent’s control.   One can create a profile on MySpace, which is password protected, in which mom and dad can not access.  They do not know what kind of friends their children talk to or what kind of lives they lead.

How many times have you turned on the news to hear about a teen who has been bullied or harassed online by “friends” and in the long run they destroy themselves or even worse, they end their life.  This is happening way too much.   In the last year I can count a handful of times that I have turned on the Today Show with them interviewing parents because they are featuring a young boy or girl that completed suicide.  Most of them were bullied by so called “friends” online.  The parents are devastated because they did not see it coming.  They (parents) had recently talked to the kid and thought life was just grand.  I recall a situation that involved a thirteen year old boy named Ryan who was simply trying to find his place in the world.  He had been teased at school so he resorted to friends on the Internet.  After girls played jokes and pretended to like him to boys who were friends one minute and spreading rumors the next, Ryan could not deal with life anymore.  He simply sought advice online as to the best method for committing suicide.  Then he carried out his plan.  This is just one of the many situations in which our teens are destroying themselves.

At some point the creators of these sites have to take a step back and realize what is going one.  I understand they can’t stop this from happening and they aren’t liable for people’s behavior.  But parents too need to monitor their kids.  Just because someone seems to be doing well on the outside, could be devastated on the inside.  Why do we allow our young adults to spend most of their time online?  Would it be too much for a teen to find something else to do with their time? What ever happened to reading a book or hanging out with family?

It’s always about politics!

As I was reading through opinions in The New York Times I came across one that was discussing Hillary Clinton’s campaign statics and how they’ve changed.  She is like watching Sybil.  We’ve seen everything from Experienced Hillary; Soft Hillary; Joined-at-the-hip-to-Bill Hillary; to even It’s-my-turn Hillary.  Now that she has lost 11 states to date, I think she is trying to pull everything out of the bag against Obama.  I’m not a supporter of either one, but I have to admit it starts to become funny at some point.    Just the other day, Hillary was able to recruit Ellen to support her as if she was competing with Obama and Oprah…WHO CARES!!  Then there are reports that she dug up the photo of Obama wearing his native attire including a turbin.  Is this saying we have a terrorists running for President?  Come on Hillary, throw in the towel, you were already President for two terms!!

What’s the point in Valentine’s Day?

As Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, we question what kind of holiday is this? Is it only for lovers, someone you care about (children, parents, friends), or perhaps it’s a Hallmark holiday altogether? Many of us are married, so it’s another day to receive flowers, candy and maybe a nice dinner with our significant other. But what about those people that are single? Do they care or is it just another day?

There has been so much hype about Valentine’s Day. Every show on TV right now revolves around making cakes in the shape of hearts, what kind of presents to give and what cards to buy.

Why do people make so much about this holiday? Shouldn’t you show the people in your life that you care about them all the time?
